Introduction


This section provides information about banknotes and coins in circulation and their security features. Apart from the euro banknotes and coins, this section also provides details on the Maltese currency that was in circulation until 31 January 2008.

This section also includes a brief history of coinage in Malta and information of the numismatic exhibition which is presently housed in the foyer of the main building of the Central Bank of Malta at Castille Place in Valletta.

The currency section also provides information on the commemorative coins issued by the Central Bank of Malta. Those interested in receiving updated information on commemorative issues are to complete the Mailing List Application Form.
