The sole authority and responsibility within the Bank to take decisions and to perform any function or duty or to exercise any power relating to monetary policy is vested in the Governor who, when performing this function, shall act in accordance with the powers and duties conferred by the Treaty and the Statute.

The Monetary Policy Advisory Commitee is established by the Central Bank of Malta Act, Cap 204 at the discretion of the Governor to advise him on matters relating to monetary policy. The Committee is constituted of such a number of persons as the Governor may determine and may also include suitably qualified persons from outside the Bank. In this regard, the Governor is also supported by the Bank’s experts taking part in the ESCB committees and working groups that perform the necessary technical analysis.
